Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum and ORACLE
Arena are home to the Oakland Athletics, Oakland Raiders and Golden
State Warriors, as well as other sporting events, concerts and
family shows. Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum has a capacity of
62,000 people and hosts more than 100 events a year. The coliseum
recently installed the AeroScout and VenueSoft solution to help
staff quickly deploy response teams, such as security, police,
medical, or facilities personnel, when issues arise during events.
For any given response service, different areas of the coliseum may
be served by different companies or departments. If something
happens during an event that requires immediate attention, the venue
needs to ensure that the right response team is called to the right
location as quickly and efficiently as possible.
To solve this problem, Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum’s 150 ushers,
positioned throughout the facility, carry VenueSoft’s VenueAlert
handheld devices equipped with AeroScout T2 Active RFID tags. Each
device has eight one-touch buttons that perform specific pre-coded
functions, such as notify police, notify medical, and notify the
cleanup crew. If an incident occurs, such as a medical emergency, an
usher simply presses the appropriate button to alert the medical
response team that serves that specific area of the coliseum.
Location information from the AeroScout tags integrated into the
handheld devices is used to determine which response team to notify
for the particular area of the coliseum. That information is sent to
a third-party facilities management system integrated with
AeroScout’s MobileView software.
“AeroScout
is the ideal partner for the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum
implementation because its technology is reliable and works with
standard Wi-Fi networks, and because its MobileView software easily
integrates with a wide range of third-party applications,” said
Randy Wingate, Chief Operating Officer of VenueSoft. “The joint
VenueSoft and AeroScout solution has already been tested and used
during three events. Based on the success of the project so far,
facilities management at the Complex are now planning to extend the
solution to the ORACLE Arena as well.”
“While AeroScout is best known for its leadership in Unified Asset
Visibility solutions for hospitals, manufacturing and logistics, our
Wi-Fi-based Active RFID technology is also well suited for a wide
range of other applications, such as venue management and safety,”
said Gabi Daniely, Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy
at AeroScout. “VenueSoft has been a great partner and we look
forward to working with them on more projects. We’re thrilled that
AeroScout is part of a solution to help improve safety and
efficiency at one of our local Bay Area event venues.”
