The
announcement coincides with a number of significant developments
within the company, which places it at the forefront of near field
data communications innovation in this global business, including:
- Contracts signed with major
semiconductor companies selling to the mobile handset and other
consumer markets, which endorses the IP, skills and knowledge that
Innovision has built up
- Several new projects progressed to
prototype design - one integrating NFC with Bluetooth and two others
offering advanced multi-frequency RFID solutions
- Recruitment of more than 20
people, primarily new IC and software designers, and further
investment in industry-standard design tools to create one of the
largest dedicated NFC engineering design teams in the industry
- Innovision's Topaz? mandated by
the NFC Forum as the number one NFC tag type format
"We are seeing increasing prominence
and importance being placed on NFC and RFID," according to Innovision
Research & Technology's CEO, David Wollen .
"Mobile operators, for example, are seeing NFC as part of their future
requirements and mobile handset manufacturers are identifying NFC on
their product roadmaps, while numerous trials are underway for
contactless payments and smart ticketing - all areas we are heavily
involved in. All the signs are there that NFC-enabled consumer devices
will be shipping in the next few years, so right now it's a very
important time to be in this marketplace and we're excited about the
future."
