National
Scientific Corporation CEO Interviewed by The Wall Street Transcript,
Comments on New Mexico Plan for GPS on All School Buses
December 12, 2006
An interview with Michael Grollman, chairman and chief executive
officer of National Scientific Corporation, emerging leader in
location-sensitive technologies, has been published by The Wall Street
Transcript (www.twst.com). It is also available at the company's
website, www.nsct.info.
In the interview, Grollman describes the company's embedded technology
applications for public safety, including wireless security
applications for school buses, featuring video tracking and
surveillance, and the use of RFID to track children getting on and off
buses. He also discusses National Scientific Corporation solutions for
tracking police, fire and other first responder vehicles to enhance
response time and improve public safety. "We are going into our second
year of aggressive growth and deployment of those technologies. I
believe we're at a steep inflection point in our growth curve," he
notes. |

The
company's premier product is the Travado IBUS mobile wireless video
solution, designed for school districts, which comprise the largest
public transportation system in North America. Roughly 23.5 million
students ride school buses in the U.S. everyday, aboard a fleet of
some 450,000 vehicles. "National Scientific Corporation provides the
option of tracking individual students as they get on and off the bus,
using either a student ID card, a bus card, or an RFID device, so that
we can keep parents and administrators informed about where kids are
at any given time."
"What makes our system unique is its ability to operate in the Wi-Fi
and mesh Wi-Fi environment. One of the reasons that public safety
applications don't get off the ground is the cost associated with
cellular airtime and other kinds of wireless technologies to get that
information off the vehicle. But there has been an explosion recently
in municipal deployment of wide-scale Wi-Fi solutions. We think we are
on the leading edge in being able to piggyback GPS and related kinds
of telemetry onto those municipal Wi-Fi mesh systems, providing
cost-efficient solutions," Grollman said.
In a separate statement, Grollman commented on New Mexico Governor
Bill Richardson's recently announced plan to invest $2.6 million to
equip all 3,200 school buses in his state with GPS locating
technology. Responding to growing violence on buses, the governor said
he wants a system that will pinpoint bus location, disable a bus if it
is hijacked, provide a panic button for the driver, and provide video
coverage of the interior of every bus. "National Scientific
Corporation's Travado IBUS Digital Video Recorder and Rider
Authentication System is the answer for New Mexico's concerns,"
Grollman said, noting that the company is pursuing contracts in that
state. "New Mexico's desire for a technology solution for child safety
reflects a national trend, and underscores the very significant market
opportunity that our company is pursuing."
